Inter-Club Matches – What do they involve?

A few newcomers to the seniors have asked me what is involved in playing inter-club matches – for their benefit and for those seniors who have forgotten what it is like I have attempted to describe it below. Hopefully this will encourage more people to sign up for matches as we need your support.

Wanted players to participate in friendly matches:
The committee want to get more players involved in friendly club matches it would be great if people would sign up and try it, I am sure you will enjoy it. I have tried to summarise below what it involves but the day is based on competitive, enjoyable golf.

The seniors play friendly matches through the summer months against senior sections of other clubs. These matches are competitive, but played in a very friendly atmosphere and the emphasis is on enjoyment. Although we like to win it is not the be all and end all, enjoyment is the key word! For those not familiar with the format, it is pair’s match play so you play with another Studley Wood member and if it is your first time we would obviously pair you with somebody who is an experienced player in this format.

It gives you the opportunity to play on some of the top courses in the area such as Burford, Frilford, The Oxfordshire, Tadmarton etc. for a bargain price which is usually less than £15.
The day usually consists of tea/coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf and a two course meal afterwards – all in a convivial atmosphere.
We encourage people to play in the corresponding Home & Away match as in the home match you would buy the pair you play against a drink after the match and drinks during the meal and they would reciprocate this in the away match.
For home matches the dress code is smart casual, at the away matches most clubs ask you to wear a jacket & tie but this would be confirmed when selected.

The dress code when actually playing golf is the same as at Studley Wood. If you have a Studley sweater or Polo Shirt we would encourage you to wear it on the day but it is not mandatory.

So now that you have read this, please give serious thought to signing up and playing in the forthcoming matches in April and onwards – You will enjoy it!!
